Food Label Scanner uses a local-first design for user history and preferences. At the same time, some scan features depend on third-party APIs in order to read labels, extract text, translate ingredients, and generate explanations.

• No account required: You do not need to sign up or create an account to use the app.
• Local storage for app state: Scan history, favorites, preferences, and related app records are stored on your device.
• Third-party processing during scans: When you scan an image, image bytes and extracted text may be sent to third-party services to complete OCR and AI-assisted explanation features.

2. Information We Process

A. Camera and image data

The app requests access to your camera so you can capture product packaging, ingredient labels, and barcodes.

• Captured images are used to scan barcodes and attempt OCR on ingredient labels.
• During certain scan flows, image bytes may be transmitted to external APIs in order to extract text or assist with explanation generation.
• The app is not designed as a cloud photo storage service and does not create user accounts or hosted image libraries.

B. On-device app data

The following information may be saved locally on your device to support repeat usage:

• Scan history: product names, results, confidence indicators, language metadata, and scan timestamps.
• Saved decisions: favorites or product notes that help users remember previous decisions.
• User preferences: selected language, dietary lens, health goal, and family-related preference records where supported by the app.
• Cached translation/explanation records: some ingredient explanation results may be cached locally to improve later scans.

3. Third-Party Services Used During Scans

Food Label Scanner may rely on the following third-party services when certain features are used:

• Google Cloud Vision API: used to perform OCR and extract text from food packaging images.
• Google Gemini API: used to help translate, explain ingredients, and interpret structured scan data.
• Open Food Facts: used to look up product information when a barcode scan matches available public product records.

These services may receive image bytes, barcode values, ingredient text, or structured scan context when needed to complete a scan. This processing happens as part of the active feature flow initiated by the user.

4. Permissions

The app may request the following permissions depending on platform and feature usage:

• Camera: to capture ingredient labels and barcode images.
• Network access / internet: to reach OCR, AI, and product lookup services required for online scan features.

5. Data Sharing and Disclosure

• No user account database: we do not operate a user login system or profile backend for this app.
• No sale of user data: we do not sell your locally stored scan history or preferences.
• Feature-driven external processing: image or text data may be transmitted to the service providers listed above only when required to complete a scan or explanation request.

6. Retention and Deletion

Because the app stores its main history and preferences locally, you remain in control of most stored app data on your device.

1. You can clear scan history and related app-maintained records through in-app maintenance or settings features where available.
2. You can remove local app data through your device's app settings by clearing storage/data.
3. Uninstalling the app removes locally stored app data from your device, subject to your platform's normal app-removal behavior.

7. Children's Privacy

The app is not intended for children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information through this app in a way that raises a privacy concern, please contact us so we can review the issue.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the app, its integrations, or its data handling. When we do, we will publish the updated version on this page and revise the date shown above.
